On January 25, 2017; I attended my very first membership mixer event (In The Mix), down in Houston Texas, as one of this year’s new members of The Recording Academy - Texas Chapter on the road to my very first Grammy award ceremony in LA. As I was on the second floor standing around a small meeting table conversing with five of the governing board members, I heard this very distinctive voice coming from literally right next to me (which he was not standing there a few seconds before I turned away) contributing to the group conversation as we were discussing the 12 membership chapters based around the United States.
As I turned to my right, I realized that I was standing next to & conversing with one of the most vocally powerful Hip-Hop artist/lyricist in the music industry. I’m speaking of none other than the man next to me in this photo (The Clean-Up Man himself), the great Willie D of the ground-breaking Hip-Hop group The Geto Boys. Willie D, I said this to you privately at the event and now I will say it again publicly: "THANK YOU so very much for the phenomenal stories that you told lyrically in your music and the impact that you made in my life as I was growing up in South Dallas listening to you & The Geto Boys (www.mtv.com/artists/geto-boys) truly describing in detail the stories of everyday life in the streets. Even to this very day, the art of your music still has great influence in the lives of so many of your fans from all walks of life and I am so grateful to be able to grow up as a fan to now become a fellow artist in the music industry as a Rock bass guitarist/songwriter and a fellow Recording Academy member striving to come close to make the same impact contribution in the music industry as you have done and still continuing to do to this very day. THANK YOU, SIR."
I will post more photos that were taken of me from this event once they’ve been published by The Recording Academy / GRAMMYs. Until then, next stop: The 59th Grammy Awards ceremony at The Staples Center in Los Angeles (February 12, 2017).
